Vexillum 2019

The Independence House hosted the Vexillum exhibition, a contemporary look at our flag.

The Secretaría Nacional de Cultura presented the exhibition “Vexillum” at the Casa de la Independencia Museum. It is a contemporary look and a reflection on our flag and national symbols through a collective of artists from our environment.
The collective exhibition of 15 contemporary artists, curated by Félix Toranzos and María Eugenia Ruiz, will take place from August 14 to 30.

Vexillum is, on the one hand, the possibility of admiring and appreciating the museum collection from this dialogue proposed within the custody of the museum and, on the other, approaching our history as witnesses of our legacy.

Vexillum: from Latin: banner, flag, insignia, ensign, standard, banner.
Vexillum exhibition-action: “That which comes from the creation of works by contemporary artists, placed on the museum platform before the gaze of the spectator and reader, transforming the everyday.”
The exhibition-action of contemporary artists where the works were arranged by the curators within the museographic order of the Casa de la Independencia in the city of Asunción. Proposals that, from a visual perspective, connect and challenge in conjunction with the museum’s pieces and objects.
This mediation work is represented by fifteen visual artists from our environment whose works were made, preferably, on light supports or textiles, subtly reinserted into the space, interacting with the objects and furniture of the context.
It was about acting and dialoguing with the history of the flag, creating new concepts and interpretations in images of contemporary situations, adapting them to the commemoration of Flag Day, as narratives of the national collective memory.
