Artist
Being an artist allows me to embody my imagination, materializing it into something corporal, that survives time. Thus, I can leave my trace when I go through this life by expressing an eternal feeling of gratitude and giving back to the world through pieces that are created with love and from the heart

I was born in Asuncion, which is where I live and work.
My name is Gabriela Díaz de Espada, and I chose “Gaby Di” as my artistic name and signature.
Ever since I was a small child, I developed a profound interest in art. School opened the doors to art world for me, and thanks to my incredible teachers, I learned about a variety of methods, including ceramics. When I graduated, however, this passion for art came to a pause. I went to college and majored in Business Administration, married, and started a family.
As time went by, I realized that I was missing something. I was missing developing and experimenting with my creative side. It was then that I decided to venture back into the art world, attending workshops led by different, renowned artists. And this was the beginning of my artistic career, picking up and returning to my first love: art.
I began my art training in 1988, visiting Paraguayan and foreign artists’ workshops such as: Livio Abramo, Olga Blinder, Mónica González, Osvaldo Camperchioli, Enrique Espínola, Carlo Spatuzza, Teresita Capurro among others. I also had the enriching experience of working with different artisans from the craft city of Aregua, renowned for producing pottery and recognized as a national Cultural Site by UNESCO.
“I feel that my artistic career is in constant movement. It is transformed and enriched by each experience, each workshop in which I participate, and everything I have been learning for over the past 20 years. With each one of my collections, I continue to discover myself and find new ways to express myself by creating art.”
Walking art’s path makes me feel fulfilled. My learning is continuous, and I think it’s my insatiable curiosity what leads me to investigate and experiment with different and new materials.
Today, I enjoy creating art through ceramics and painting. I love what I do. I feel free creating and am grateful for this gift that has been given to me by God. Art is part of my life and, thanks to my family’s support as well as that of my artist friends, I can transit this wonderful and surprising world.
I am an active partner of Gente de Arte (Visual Arts Association of Paraguay) since 2014, and I exhibit both collectively and individually at cultural spaces and art galleries. My collections include acrylic paintings, textile and digital art, engravings, ceramics and installations.
Art for me is a necessity that drives me to create and submerge myself completely in a ludic, creative process. It is passionate, healing, freeing work.
I find inspiration everywhere: in nature, in my travels, in books, on the internet. My eyes register everything they Iike and I reinterpret them my way. I am also inspired by human relations and lived experiences.
Creative states are magical moments which lead me to create pieces using mixed techniques. I use painting, collaging, ceramics, photography, etching, textiles, and object interventions, combining and creating a relationship between the material being used, the support, and technique with which I’d like to work. Ceramics allows me to pass from flat surfaces to a three-dimensional plane, using both low and high temperatures.
In collages, I find a way to express myself with which I feel very comfortable. The process is simple, almost like arranging a puzzle. Once I’m satisfied with the composition, I start to glue, sew, and paint, integrating everything so that the result is harmonious to the viewer
Like threads in a tapestry, we are bound together in a complex harmony. My work reveals how our lives are woven together, creating a beautiful and meaningful pattern.
“My work explores the intricate web of connections that binds us together: our shared humanity, family ties, connection to nature, and the quest for the divine. We are threads of the same tapestry, each with its own color and texture, but all woven together in a beautiful and complex harmony. Our actions, like the threads of this tapestry, intertwine and affect everything around us.”
